Purpose

The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) has convened and facilitates the bilingual teacher pipeline work group. The work group is primarily HR and English Language Learner (ELL) directors from the road map districts (Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, Seattle, and Tukwila). The charge for the work group is to determine best practices and strategies for recruiting, developing, and eventually transitioning bilingual para professionals and others into certificated teaching roles. The work group has been charged to do the following:

  • Develop a feasibility study that includes the needs of potential candidates, demand for bilingual and dual language teachers, opportunities, and barriers for strengthening “Grow Your Own” programs in the districts.
  • Identify and develop common strategies among districts to strengthen “Grow Your Own” with local policies that support growth of bilingual educators.
