This page is for programs that have already been approved. If you are interested in offering a new educator preparation program, visit our preparation program approval process page.
Change an existing program (excluding alternative routes programs)
If you are making changes to, or adding a new program option to an already approved educator preparation program,* there is no formal approval process. We do, however, ask that you notify Leiani Sherwin, Leiani.sherwin@k12.wa.us, of program updates and ensure changes or additions are reflected in your annual program review data submissions.
- After PESB staff have received and reviewed the form, we will reach out with questions and/or notify you that you may move forward with the proposed change(s).
- Changes to program design typically do not need Board approval; however, if the proposed change is a substantial deviation from the original PESB-approved program, Board approval may be required.
*Example: Your institution is already approved to offer a residency teacher traditional route program. At the time of approval and currently, this is offered through a Bachelor’s Degree. Your institution is now considering also offering a residency teacher traditional route through a Master’s Degree. Notify Leiani, and if the change occurs, reflect the update in your annual data submission.
Change or add an existing alternative routes program
If you are already approved to offer an Alternative Routes to Teacher Certification program and would like to add a new program option, add or change the route number(s) you offer, or update existing program design, you must complete the alternative routes change notification form.
- This form must be completed and submitted as a Microsoft Word document to prajakta.deshmukh@k12.wa.us.
- After PESB staff have received and reviewed the form, we will reach out with questions and/or notify you if you may move forward with the proposed change(s).
- Changes to program design typically do not need Board approval; however, if the proposed change is a substantial deviation from the original PESB-approved program, Board approval may be required.
If you are not already approved to offer an alternative routes program, your institution must complete the preparation program approval process.
