New certificate renewal requirements
Beginning July 1, 2023, teachers and administrators across the career continuum must meet new professional learning requirements to renew their certificates. Established and passed by the Washington State Legislature in ESHB 1426, these new requirements include focused learning on equity-based school practices, educational leadership, and government-to-government relations. Race-ethnicity and gender of working educators

Limited certificate use

First credential teacher counts by educator preparation program provider
First credential teacher completers are beginning teacher candidates who have finished their preparation program. They could be from either a traditional route program or one of Washington’s four alternative routes to teacher certification.
