On March 13, 2020, Governor Inslee announced an order for all K-12 schools in Washington State to close for six weeks, with the support of state Superintendent, Chris Reykdal. View OSPI’s guidance and resource webpage.
Due to the unprecedented closure of schools, the decision was made to set a reimbursement rate for the school year. The reimbursement rate to districts for providing training on the Fundamental Course of Study during the 2019-20 school year is $218 per paraeducator per day. The “school year” for 2019-20 will include training that is provided from July 1, 2019 to September 1, 2020.

|After the 2020 legislative session
The 2020 supplemental budget (ESSB 6168) allocated $26,359,000 for Washington school districts to provide four days of training (28 hours) to their paraeducators on the FCS by the end of the 2021 fiscal year. This amount includes the original amount of $12,001,000 (i.e., $14,358,000 new dollars available).
Prior to the 2020 legislative session
|School districts and ESDs who hire paraeducators are to complete iGrants package 918 to file preliminary and final claims for funding to help offset costs incurred during paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study training through September 1, 2020. Final claims must be received no later than Tuesday, September 1, 2020 for the 2019-20 school year at a rate of $218 per completed day per paraeducator. Claims submitted after September 1, 2020 will be reimbursed at a different rate.|
