The subcommittee put forward the following recommendations regarding the Advanced Paraeducator Certificate.

  • Advanced paraeducator standards of practice (document); and
  • Paraeducators may become eligible for an Advanced Paraeducator Certificate by completing 75 clock hours in the duties of an advanced paraeducator and/or completing Professional Growth Plans (PGPs).
  • The Advanced Paraeducator Certificate should be based on district supported curriculum and instructional strategies that would prepare paraeducators to provide specialized classroom support to highly impacted classrooms under the direction of certificated/licensed staff. The subcommittee put forward a resource of recommended, though not required, courses (document) paraeducators and districts may consider pursuing to meet necessary clock hours.
