Regional Workforce Meetings

Uncertainty about your staffing picture / late opportunity for hiring creating more of a problem than ever?

Matching the credentials of teachers you have with the courses you want to offer a big challenge?

Persistent shortages in ELL, Special Ed or Math?

Wanting to increase staffing from underrepresented populations?

Per a charge from the state legislature, the Professional Educator Standards Board and each ESD are working with districts to help them articulate their needs for data and new strategies related to educator workforce development, collectively address policy barriers, and create greater access to resources in support of workforce development.

This site will capture the outcomes of the regional dialogues shaping district collective response to the legislature and be an ongoing source of information on programs and resources available to districts to meet their workforce challenges.

Tacoma Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Art Jarvis and Assistant Superintendent Laurie Taylor talk about the importance of workforce planning - http://www.youtube.com/user/WAPESB

“This is a different world, though in many ways our preparation, our hiring, and our professional development are speaking to a history and not to our future needs. If we don’t pay attention to planning and preparation for what teachers are going to face we are going to be shifting problems to retention and job satisfaction." - Dr. Art Jarvis

Legislative Charge

Beginning with the 2010 school year and annually thereafter, each educational service district, in cooperation with the professional educator standards board, must convene representatives from school districts within that region and professional educator standards board-approved educator preparation programs to review district and regional educator workforce data, make biennial projections of certificated staffing needs, and identify how recruitment and enrollment plans in educator preparation programs reflect projected need.  – ES2B 6696, 2010 Legislative Session
