The ProTeach Portfolio is an evidence-based performance assessment designed for teachers seeking the Washington professional certificate. Teachers who hold a residency certificate must meet the passing score set on the ProTeach Portfolio in order to earn their professional certificate. The ProTeach Portfolio evaluates teachers on their ability to impact student learning as stated in the 3 standards — effective teaching, professional development and professional contributions — and 12 criteria for the professional certificate approved by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB). ProTeach Portfolio candidates work within an online environment to create and build their evidence-based portfolio over time. Each portfolio is made up of 3 entries that are scored using an online scoring system.

Please be aware that pending Board approval at the May 2017 regular PESB meeting, the pathways for teachers to add endorsements to their certificates will be changing.

Effective June 26th Pathway 2 will be eliminated, and Pathways 1 and 3 will be restructured. A complete state-approved endorsement program (formerly Pathway 3) or National Board Certification will be required to add any of the following to a Residency, Professional, or Continuing teaching certificate:
    1. Early Childhood Education,
    2. Elementary Education,
    3. Bilingual Education,
    4. English Language Learners,
    5. Special Education, or
    6. Early Childhood Special Education
All other endorsements may be added by what was previously known Pathway 1 - successful passage of a content knowledge test (WEST-E/NES).  No endorsement additions will require a pedagogy assessment.

See materials prepared for March Board meeting discussion for more information.
