Math and Science District Survey

Memo 04-08 Math & Science District Survey

National research has concluded that qualified teachers are the strongest predictor of student achievement. Therefore, policy-makers in Washington State want to know who is teaching math and the sciences to our students, and the supply and demand challenges related to math and science teaching positions.

To that end, in the 2008 session, the legislature approved in the budget (2008 Supplemental Budget, Part V, Section 501(w)) a math and science teacher study to be conducted by the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) and due to the legislature in December 2008. Among the items required in the report is district-reported endorsement information of teachers of math and the sciences as well as projected district need of math and science teachers now and in the future.

The survey is due September 30, 2008. Below is a link to survey directions and the survey. Please read the survey directions carefully before starting the survey. Once you have completed both math and science portions of the summary, email the survey to Nasue Nishida at nasue.nishida@k12.wa.us. If you have questions, you can contact her at 360-725-6238.
