TEACHER ASSESSMENTS

Administrative Procedures

The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) has been charged with establishing the prospective teacher assessment system for basic skills (WEST-B) and subject knowledge (WEST-E). Successful passage of these assessments will be required for residency certification in Washington State.

The WEST-B will assess basic skills defined as:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Mathematics

The WEST-E will assess content knowledge skills for each of the 33 endorsement areas listed below.
