Teacher Assessments

In 2000, the Washington State Legislature directed the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) to establish the educator assessment system. The system includes:

• the WEST-B (Washington Educator Skills Test-Basic), an assessment of basic skills in reading, mathematics and writing

• the WEST-E (Washington Educator Skills Tests – Endorsements), an assessment of the content knowledge required for each of the endorsements

• the Performance-based Pedagogy Assessment

• ProTeach Portfolio, an evidence-based portfolio assessment for the professional certificate.
