Washington Educator Skills Test - Endorsements

All candidates adding an endorsement to a new or existing Washington teaching certificate must pass a content knowledge test adopted by the PESB for that endorsement.

The PESB has initiated redevelopment of the tests that are needed for P-12 educator endorsements.  The new tests will be known as the WEST- E (Washington Educator Skills Tests- Endorsements). Use of the Praxis II tests will be phased out after 9/1/09; however, during the 2008-09 test year, the Praxis II tests will continue to be administered in Washington on the dates and sites listed on their website at www.ets.org/praxis/prxwa.html.  After 9/1/09, only Praxis II test for the ESA certificates [School Counselor #20420), School Psychologists (#10400), School Social Worker (#20211), and School Speech Language Pathologists/ Audiologists (#20330)] will be administered in Washington State.

Note:  Before registering for either the new WEST- E or Praxis II test, be certain that you are taking the content knowledge test that will meet the requirements specific to your situation.  To determine the test you need to take, read the information below.

See Schedule of Implementation for the new tests.

Caution:

Before purchasing test preparation/study guide materials for the WEST-B or WEST-E tests sold by third party vendors, be certain the test codes indicated on the materials match the codes for WEST-B and WEST-E tests.  Some materials say, “WEST-E Health/Fitness" or "WEST-E Biology” but use the test codes for Praxis II tests.  Those materials may not be fully aligned with the WEST-B or WEST-E tests.
