Do You Qualify?

Alternative Routes Criteria

  1. Are you a classified instructional employee of a Washington State Public School with a transferable Associate degree? (Route 1)
  2. Are you a classified employee of a Washington State School District with a baccalaureate degree? (Route 2)
  3. Are you a working professional with a baccalaureate and subject matter expertise in a shortage area - (Route 3)
  4. Are you an individual with a current conditional or emergency substitute certificate? (Route 4)

ROUTE #1

  • I have been working as a classified instructional employee of a Washington State Public School for at least 3 years.
  • I have a transferable Associate degree;
  • I am seeking residency certification with an endorsement in Special Education or ESL.I meet the good moral character and personal fitness requirements required by State Board rule of all applicants for teaching certificates (WAC 181-79A-155)
  • I have passed the WEST-B (basic skills test)

I meet ALL of the criteria.
I do not meet ALL of the criteria.

ROUTE #2

  • I have been working as a classified employee of a Washington State Public School for at least 3 years.
  • I have a baccalaureate degree and understand that GPA will be considered;
  • I am seeking residency certification in a subject matter or geographic shortage area;
  • I meet the good moral character and personal fitness requirements required by State Board rule of all applicants for teaching certificates (WAC 181-79A-155)
  • I have passed the WEST-B (basic skills test)
  • I have passed the PRAXIS II test for my subject area

I meet ALL of the criteria.
I do not meet ALL of the criteria.

ROUTE #3

  • I have at least five years of experience in the work force ;
  • I have a baccalaureate degree and understand that GPA will be considered;
  • I am seeking residency teacher certification in a subject matter or geographic shortage area
  • I meet the good moral character and personal fitness requirements required by State Board rule of all applicants for teaching certificates (WAC 181-79A-155)
  • I have passed the WEST-B (basic skills test)
  • I have passed the PRAXIS II test for my subject area

I meet ALL of the criteria.
I do not meet ALL of the criteria.

ROUTE #4

  • I have a conditional or emergency substitute certificate in a "core academic subject
  • I have a baccalaureate degree in a shortage area or closely related field;
  • I am currently assigned to teach a "core academic subject" (mathematics, science, English, history, social studies, music, dance, drama, art, foreign language, reading, language arts;
  • I meet the good moral character and personal fitness requirements required by State Board rule of all applicants for teaching certificates (WAC 181-79A-155)
  • I have passed the WEST-B (basic skills test)
  • I have passed the PRAXIS II test for my subject area

I meet ALL of the criteria.
I do not meet ALL of the criteria.
